Chronic Symptoms
Cold Sensitivity (Hiesho)
A condition where hands, feet, or the entire body feel abnormally cold, often caused by poor circulation or autonomic nervous system imbalance. Kampo aims to improve this by balancing 'Qi, Blood, and Water'.
Differences between Western and Eastern Medicine regarding Cold Sensitivity
Cold sensitivity is not simply “feeling cold easily” but is considered a constitutional issue.
In Eastern medicine (Kampo), cold sensitivity is thought to be a state where the circulation of “Blood” is poor (Oketsu) or the energy that warms the body, “Qi”, is deficient.
Main Kampo Approaches
- Tokishakuyakusan: Often used for people who get tired easily and have cold sensitivity.
- Kamishoyosan: Suitable for those whose circulation is stagnant due to stress.
- Keishikajutsubuto: For cases where hands and feet are extremely cold and painful.
