Open Research PaperSummary of the Study
This study conducted a placebo-controlled, double-blind trial on 120 adult women with chronic cold sensitivity to investigate the effects of Tokishakuyakusan administration on subjective symptoms and surface body temperature.
Results
- In the Tokishakuyakusan group, the surface temperature of the hands and feet increased by an average of 1.2°C after 4 weeks of administration.
- The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score for “feeling cold” significantly improved.
- Remarkable effects were observed particularly in the group with signs of “Blood deficiency”.
Expert Commentary
Tokishakuyakusan works by replenishing blood and regulating fluid metabolism, making it a suitable prescription for those concerned with cold sensitivity and accompanying edema (swelling). These research findings clinically support the scientific rationale that Kampo medicine improves peripheral blood flow.
